The California Girl’s Garden

Reaping What You Sow

3462986342_b976af2ff9I planted a pea in a plastic pot

And waited to see what would grow.

You’ll never believe what I finally got.

I’m sure as can be you don’t know.

Did I get pineapples, peaches or pears,

Peppers, papayas or plums?

Did I get poppies, petunias or posies

Or purple chrysanthemums?

Did I get parsely or puslane or prunes,

Persimmons or pungent parsnips?

Did I get peanuts or popcorn or pretzels

Or crispy potatoe chips?

Peppermint patties? Pistachio pudding?

A pizza with sliced pepperoni?

Perhaps a new pet, like a parrot or pug,

A pot-bellied pig or a pony?

I’m sorry to say,

But you’re perfectly wrong

If you possibly picked one of these.

‘Cause all that I plucked

Off the plant in my pot

Was a pitiful podful of peas!

I planted a pea in a plastic pot

And waited to see what would grow.

But silly ol’ me, I guess I forgot:

You only reap what you sow.
